Turn the page ~

(holds up photo album)

“You remember the Fiero?”

“My race car!”

“On four cylinders?”

“Remember Iowa City truck stop?”

“Ha! Trucker thought he had the wrong
restroom! Your hippie hair. Didn’t
he sing Seger line?”

(singing) Is that a woman or a man…

“Ironic considering the song’s history.”

“Yep.”

(pages rustle)

“Movin’ on, next please.”

This flash fiction 55 has been fashioned for the G-Man, who is nice enough to host from coast to coast (or pole to pole) any mug who wish to post. Go link up your 55 word story or poem.

Sidebar…I had started to write a very somber tribute to Nick Drake’s Pink Moon. I kept repeating the line,’turn the page’ in the poem. Well, I love that song and decided to find the video, but I first scanned the Wiki blurb, only to discover Seger was inspired to write it after hearing “Is that a woman or a man” when they stopped at an Iowa truck stop. I know, I know… “east of Omaha”, but I never thought literally.

Anyhoo, in ’89, my wanna-be hippie bro had the same thing happen at a truck stop on our way home from Iowa City. I laughed so hard because he was soooo pissed…he was very petite back then and from the backside…pure girl! lol!

  3. Now you see more than the fair share of truckers with long hair. Great 55 and song flashback.

  4. I used to hate that line–most of the guys with long hair also had some facial accompaniment–hull-OH ZZTOP is an all male band, bro.(Another one I like in a similar vein is Dire Straits’ Money for Nothin.”yeah, buddy, that’s his own hair.” which they apparently overheard in some American appliance store) This is my husband’s fave Bob Segar song–I like You’re Still the Same a bit more, myself, but it is iconic of an era that I hope is mostly gone. Great use of the whole concept for a 55.

  5. The year…1968
Me and a Buddy rode our Motorcycles 20 miles to a Ski Resort named Mt. Holly. They had a ballroom that Rock and Roll acts were booked in.
Acts like Iggy And The Stooges (Iggy Popp). Dick Wagner and the Frost, and on this particular night, Bob Segar had the Number One song in the Country, Ramblin Gamblin Man!!!
We saw him for 5 Bucks!!!
Bob hails from Ann Arbor and he is a Local Legend around these parts.
    Thanks for the Memories Angela
